5 ways to Party Sustainably

Planning a party that’s fun, thoughtful and kind to the planet? Yes please. Here are some of my go-to ways to make birthdays fun without all the waste, stress, or dollar store overload.

Decor: Skip the Balloons

Balloons are cute, but not so great for the environment—and honestly, they’re not even necessary. Try these instead:

• Fake flowers: They’re vibrant, reusable, and give the party a fresh, whimsical vibe.

• Curtains as backdrops: A simple set of fun curtains can completely transform a space and be used over and over.

• Burlap birthday banner: Neutral, reusable, and timeless—it’ll last you for years!

  
  

Goodie Bags That Actually Feel Good

Parents will love you for skipping the plastic trinkets. Here are sustainable (and meaningful) swaps:

• Local ice cream shop gift cards: Support a small biz and let the party live on when the kids go for their sweet treat later.

• Charity donation: Add a sign that says, “Thank you for coming! In lieu of goodie bags, a donation has been made to [your favourite local cause].”

• Planting kit: A small pot, some soil, and seeds—it's an eco-friendly gift that teaches kids to grow something of their own.
